TRANSMEDIA GAME JAM

Accelerator Programme

Where animation worlds come alive in games and ideas level up to investors!
Transmedia Game Jam is a multi-staged programme where animation studios and game developers team up to create interactive games from existing storyworlds. Throughout the programme the participants formed cross-industry teams, participated in industry lead masterclasses and mentor sessions, and pitched their final prototypes to investors and publishers.

An initiative by Helsinki Film Lab, the programme serves as a pilar for building strong cross-sector connections and establish a solid foundation for transmedia development, all within an intensive, fast-track format.

 FAQs

  • Each team produces a playable prototype, vertical slice, or conceptual demo based on an existing animation IP. The focus is on exploring interactive storytelling, audience engagement, and transmedia potential rather than on technical polish.

  • Participation is free of charge, thanks to the support of our partners. However, participants are responsible for their own travel and accommodation unless otherwise stated.

  • Teams are formed through a speed dating session held after the Animation Pitching, where all selected animation and gaming applicants have the chance to meet, exchange ideas, and explore potential collaborations. Following this session, teams will form organically based on shared creative interests and complementary skillsets. Additionally, both animation and gaming participants are encouraged to be proactive in finding their match and shaping the collaboration that best fits their vision.

  • Yes, as long as you are based/registered in Finland.

  • This game jam is designed for experienced jammers and professionals from the gaming and animation industries who are ready to collaborate on a real, goal-oriented project. While you don’t need to be a game developer specifically, participants should bring solid creative or production experience from their own field. The Transmedia Teams, formed by animation and gaming companies, will work toward creating a playable prototype with genuine production potential, with the aim of continuing development after the jam and applying for funding or pitching to investors. This jam is intended as the first step of a longer creative and business journey.

  • All participating teams will agree on a written contract between themselves to define how any new material, prototypes, or concepts created during the jam are owned and used after the event. The original animation IP always remains with its rightful owner, while any newly developed game elements or collaborative content will be handled according to the team’s mutual agreement. Helsinki Film Lab and the Finnish Game Jam Association do not claim any ownership of participants’ IP.

  • No, but we do give priority to pre-formed teams who want to participate in this jam. However, if you do not have a team, we still encourage you to apply. During the initial phase of this programme (during the Animation Pitching), we will give the opportunity for game teams and companies to add team members as they require.

  • Yes, you absolutely can begin working on the game even before the jam! The “in-between” time is scheduled to allow creative alignment and asset prep time between the Transmedia Teams - to give te best possible start to the Game Jam!
