About the Transmedia Game Jam

The Transmedia Game Jam is a unique collaboration between Helsinki Film Lab and the Finnish Game Jam Association, designed to bridge the worlds of film, animation, and games through hands-on experimentation and cross-industry collaboration.

This three-day creative sprint brings together filmmakers, animators, game developers, composers, and visual artists to adapt existing screen IPs into playable experiences, and to reimagine game worlds as narrative universes ready for expansion across multiple formats. Participants form interdisciplinary teams that work intensively to produce early-stage game prototypes, concepts, or playable demos drawn from existing film and TV properties, while exploring new tools, production methods, and business models of transmedia storytelling.

Through support by industry professionals, participants learn about IP adaptation, narrative design, audience engagement, and cross-media strategy, gaining insight into how stories can travel across games, animation, film, comics, and beyond.

The jam culminates in a public showcase and pitch session where teams present their prototypes to a panel of producers, investors, and potential partners: opening real pathways toward further development, collaboration, and funding.

The Transmedia Game Jam acts as both a laboratory and a launchpad: a place where creative worlds meet, merge, and evolve into new, cross-platform stories for global audiences.
