Helsinki Film Lab Partners with Pocket Gamer Connects Helsinki to Curate the Beyond Games Transmedia Summit

Helsinki Film Lab joined forces with Pocket Gamer Connects Helsinki to co-curate this year’s Beyond Games Transmedia Summit - a landmark event exploring the creative intersections between film, TV, games, and beyond. The summit, held on October 7 at the Wanha Satama (Katajanokka, Helsinki), drew a packed audience of industry professionals from across the Nordic and international creative sectors, filling the room from the first session to the last.

The packed programme featured thought-provoking talks and case studies that bridged storytelling, design, and business innovation across formats. Highlights included:

  • Eeva Aaltonen (Rovio) on the cultural legacy and global brand strategy of Angry Birds

  • Joni Lappalainen (Dreamloop Games) and Timo Argillander (Making Movies) discussing the film-and-game collaboration ALMA

  • Antti J. Jokinen (Storm inc.) sharing insights from his upcoming Kalevala feature film adaptation

  • Petri Alanko, the celebrated composer of Alan Wake, and Tuomas Kantelinen, one of Finland’s leading film composers, exploring the emotional power of music in transmedia storytelling

  • Ann Austen, Emmy-winning producer and writer, reflecting on creating branded content with heart and purpose

In addition to the stage programme, Helsinki Film Lab hosted two special matchmaking events - Film × Game and Game × Book - connecting IP owners, producers, and developers eager to explore cross-media collaboration. Both sessions were fully booked (pun intended!), with participants engaging in curated 1:1 meetings designed to spark new partnerships and creative projects across industries.

The sessions explored themes such as IP adaptation, cross-industry co-production, emotional worldbuilding, and the future of creative collaboration. Participants represented a vibrant mix of producers, game developers, screenwriters, publishers, and investors - demonstrating a growing appetite for Nordic-led transmedia innovation.

“The energy in the room was incredible,” said Helsinki Film Lab founder Alisha. “Seeing so many professionals from games, film, and TV come together to exchange ideas and imagine new collaborations proves that transmedia storytelling is not a distant future - it’s happening right now.”

The success of the Transmedia Summit and the matchmaking sessions marks a significant milestone in Helsinki Film Lab’s mission to position the Nordics as a global hub for cross-media storytelling and creative innovation.

Stay tuned for upcoming collaborations and events as Helsinki Film Lab continues to connect worlds, stories, and industries.
